The characters are pretty lacking in personality, unfortunately, but there are a lot of them, and at least on the Type-X version, the game can be set to English text. All of the characters are pre-rendered 3D, and the animation is uniformly smooth, though it's occasionally a little stiff-looking. Of particular note is that a couple of characters have mounts that they ride and can be knocked off of. It's a reasonably straightforward 2D fighter at heart, with a liberal dash of D&D, complete with a boatload of items that can impact how you play. It's getting released onto the Japanese PSN soon, according to Joystiq, with no current plans for a US release. On a related note, Chaos Breaker/Dark Awake was originally planned to be a Neo*Geo title (made by Eolith), but crossed platforms a few times over, eventually landing on the Type-X and getting published by Taito.
